Rooted in the 'Strong Foundations' report, 'The Writing Framework' guidance and Ofsted Toolkits, this suite of three training courses is designed to equip senior leaders, EYFS leads, and Key Stage 1 colleagues with a clear and practical understanding of what truly matters in the early years of education—ensuring every pupil receives the essential foundations for lifelong learning and success.
Why Attend?
- To gain the knowledge and tools needed to ensure every child in Reception and Key Stage 1 builds the essential skills for lifelong learning, achievement, and success.
- To explore strategies for early identification of learning needs and implement targeted actions that embed a culture of excellence—ensuring every child, particularly those with SEND or from disadvantaged backgrounds, receives the support they need to thrive and make progress.
- To evaluate and refine current teaching practice, ensuring key skills and concepts are prioritised and secured through curriculum design, effective pedagogy and ongoing assessment
What will it cover?
This training equips leaders and teachers to:
Prioritise foundational learning: structuring Reception and Key Stage 1 curriculums to clearly define and sequence essential skills in communication and language, word reading, handwriting, spelling and number fact recall so that no child is left behind.
Explore how to architect learning experiences that build fluency in literacy and numeracy from day one, close the attainment gap for vulnerable pupils, and foster confident, lifelong learners.
Leaders and teachers will have opportunities to reflect on current provision and consider how they can ensure pupils in Reception and Key Stage 1 are exceptionally well-prepared for the next stage of learning.
